We also recommend
Check weather
When it comes to clothing, it's best to use common sense. If it's hot and sunny, wear shorts, a T-shirt, and apply high SPF sunscreen. On cooler days, opt for comfortable pants and a windbreaker. If there's precipitation expected on the day of training, prepare by bringing extra pants as there are changing rooms available at our base. Be sure to check the weather forecast in advance
Have a lunch before
It is advisable to have a meal at least 1-2 hours before your scheduled workout to fuel your body and to stay hydrated, make sure to drink enough water
Further details
Wearing gloves during your sessions can make your work with sails easier on your palms and fingers. Without gloves, palms and fingers might get scars and blisters and it is advisable to wear them at all times during the session. For your first workout, you don't need to worry about buying expensive gloves since you won't know yet if you'll be going to future sessions
To ensure your safety. We recommend wearing non-slip shoes with non-marking soles. Our boats are white in order to keep them looking nice and to help them stay cooler in the sun. To help us maintain the boats' pristine condition, we ask that you wear shoes that won't leave any marks or discoloration when you use them
A cap or visor can be beneficial for a sailor. During 2 hours 15 minutes of sailing or walking, direct sunlight can cause sunstroke or nausea. Moreover, a cap or visor can protect your eyes from water glare and reflections from the white surface of the boat. Make sure the cap fits snugly on your head, as a gust of wind can easily take it away
You may need a windbreaker in various situations such as rain, strong winds, or when the air temperature drops below 26-27 C. When training on water, it can be cooler compared to on land, especially during the night or early morning. Wearing a windbreaker in the rain can prevent you from getting wet. If the weather forecast predicts low wind and high temperatures, a windbreaker may not be necessary
Sunscreen is crucial when sailing as shade from buildings and trees won't be available on the boat. Without noticing, you can easily get sunburned in just a couple of hours, so it's best to apply sunscreen to exposed skin and not worry about peeling skin in the following week
It's common to look up against the sun during sailing to observe how sails work in most positions. A hat won't be helpful in this situation, so wearing sunglasses on a strap is recommended to keep them from falling overboard or being lost. Due to the dynamic movements on the boat, it can be challenging to keep track of additional items. Sunglass straps are available in optical shops or through various online retailers
Be sure to check the weather forecast in advance. In the event of extended precipitation outdoors, it's advisable to bring an extra pair of shoes and swap them before departing from your residence
